As we head into an exciting 2012, let's take a look at the new releases from 2011!
BRAND NEW EYES
with Blues Master
Doug MacLeod
FR-703
MacLeod has been a beacon of unquestionably honest roots-music since the 1970s. On Brand New Eyes, he presents 11 original songs. He is the rare artist who writes and sings songs that are based on his own life and experiences. A 2011 Blues Music Award nominee and an American troubadour. Glenn Nishida at Pacifica Studios was the recording engineer, and our own Keith Johnson did the final mastering. Keith states it has very good sonics and sends it out with his blessing! Doug's music and recordings are beloved by blues fans and by audiophiles alike (he had several hits in past years on the Audioquest label) and we are proud to present Brand New Eyes to you!
The prestigious Concord Chamber Music Society, featuring musicians of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, mark their debut on Reference Recordings with two premiere recordings. These new works by Chris Brubeck and Michael Gandolfi, two of America's most-commissioned composers, are both accessible and adventurous. Rounding out the program, the Lukas Foss duo for violin and piano, Central Park Reel, hints cheerfully at a kind of musical twin bill. "Central Park" suggests a scene in New York but "Reel" hints at a characteristic dance often accompanied by a bluegrass band. Grammy award winning engineer "Prof." Keith Johnson did an outstanding job of recording this music in the superb natural acoustics of Mechanics Hall in Worcester, Massachusetts.
“Whatever Mike lends his hands to invariably becomes something magical.”–David Bowie.
Beginning in 1972, super-versatile pianist Mike Garson performed, toured internationally and recorded with one of the most creative figures in popular music, David Bowie.
Having played the Bowie songbook in concert countless times, Garson always had the ambition to record his own original variations on these well-known themes. This is the year it came to fruition!
This collection of fourteen original songs penned by this new artist is rich and complex music, with gorgeous lyrics in Portugese (with one song in English). We think you'll love the killer band playing with Reinaldo, and the exotic percussion from RR favorite (and album producer) Jim Brock who refers to Reinaldo Brahn as "the new voice of Brasil." Great sonics from Grammy-winning engineer Keith Johnson!
